Scandinavian Modern Brutalist Iittala ASLAK Glass Vessel w. Map Tapio Wirkkala Finland 1970s
Description
Tapio Wirkkala designed the ASLAK heavy Glass Bowl/Ashtray was produced by Iittala in the 1970s. This one designed with a map of Europe prominently displayed, in relief on the base, in the center of the bowl and most of the rest of the world towards the outer edges of the vessel. The outer walls of the vessel have the thick and textured ICE technique which Iittala was known for. The design of the map is very hard to get a good image of. Please look at all pics.
The design with the map was actually commissioned as a gift to be given by the Finnish President to all the attendees from 35 European nations of the ETY meeting (European Security Conference) which was held in Finland in 1975. This map design and one without the map were also retailed by IIttala.
