Description

With a wonderful designed form and beautifully hand painted these  3   Mid Century Modern Ernestine Ceramics Bowls are a must for a garden lunch or brunch.    The shape of the bowls is superb, with their double edge and wide flat rim terminating in a sharp edge creating the bowl.  The decorations are a work of art with fluidity and lovely color palette.  The flowers depicted are Morning Glory pattern # 934, Violets #727 and Pansies on the rim with Wild Roses in the center #871.  All three are signed ERNESTINE  ITALY  and pattern #.  All 3 in never used condition.

Ernestine Virden Cannon (1904-1969) was an American potter who lived in North Italy during WW II.  In 1946, alomg with Italian tile maker Matteo D’Agostino, started Ceramiche Ernestine in Salerno.

In 1949, her hand painted dishes, lamps and other earthenware were featured at a trade show in Pittsburh attracting the attention of NeimanMarcus and other high retailers which would represent Ernestine’s limited production items.  Most of the production was exported tp the US,

The company closed in 1969 after the death of both partners.
