Description
Grouping of a pair of Candleholders and Center Piece Bowl from the mid 1940s by Abingdon Pottery. The two porcelain candleholders hold two candles each and have a scroll design that looks like a wave cresting to provide support for a candle while the other holder sits on the lower section. The shallow bowl has a relief design of a Hibiscus Flower in full bloom. Two of the petals of the hibiscus flower flare down while other 3 flare slightly up. Lovely set in Abingdon’s Sea Green glaze. Probably designed by Frances Moody, who eventually was the designer for another artware pottery maker, hyalin.
Abingdon was founded in Knoxville, Illinois in 1908 for manufacturing plumbing fixtures and turned part of their production to porcelain artware due the recession and decline of home construction.
All three pieces have a rectangular box stamp with ABINGDON U.S.A.
All in very good condition with no issues.
Measurements: Candleholders – 4 1/2 inches wide x 3 inches deep x 4 7/8 inches high Hibiscus Centerpiece – 14 inches diameter x 2 inches high
