SOLD….1930s Depression Era Gilbert Rohde for Troy Sunshade Chromed Tubular Steel “Z” Bar Stool With Footrest
Designer Gilbert Rohde designed many of Sunshade pieces. He worked for companies such as Herman Miller and Heywood-Wakefield. Troy Sunshade Company appears more noted for their chrome indoor chairs and stools than outdoor metal furniture. The company was formed in 1887 making carriage sunshades and umbrellas. During the great depression, they moved into chrome furniture and made their own steel tubing. In 1960, they became a division of Hobert Manufacturing Company in Troy Ohio. And in 1970, the furniture business was sold to Gleason Corporation of Milwaukee.
Description
Designer Gilbert Rohde created this chrome counter height stool in 1933. From the late deco era, it has been professionally re-chromed and the tomato red boucle upholstery is recent. He worked for companies such as Herman Miller and Heywood-Wakefield. Troy Sunshade Company appears more noted for their chrome indoor chairs and stools than outdoor metal furniture. The company was formed in 1887 making carriage sunshades and umbrellas. During the great depression, they moved into chrome furniture and made their own steel tubing. Measurements: Chrome 24 inches high x 15 inches diameter. Upholstered Cushion 14 inches diameter.
