Mid Century Russel Wright (1904-1976) Bean Brown American Modern ceramic 8 coffee cups and creamer/sugar grouping. Bean Brown came in dark, light, foamy glazes and other variations depending on the production day. The glazes’ colors were very difficult to replicate in a consistent color.
American Modern line designed in 1937 and produced of durable earthenware by Steubenville Pottery in 1939 and later by Bauer of California. Popular collection of modern shapes for dishes and glassware (by Morgantown, we have listings with some of the goblets) produced from 1939- 1959 which came in numerous colors with exotic names: White, Coral, Seafoam Blue, Chartreuse Curry, Black Chutney, Cedar Green, Granite Gray, Glacier Blue, Bean Brown, Cantaloupe, and the rarest Steubenville Blue. The American Modern line was very popular, even Eleanor Roosevelt and Mamie Eisenhower had a set.
Measurements:
Creamer – 7 inches wide x 3 1/2 inches deep x 3 inches high
Sugar – 6 1/2 inches wide x 4 1/2 inches deep x 2 3/4 inches high
Cups – 5 inches wide x 3 3/4 inches deep x 1 7/8 inches high
Saucers – 5 7/8 inches diameter x 5/8 inch high
Condition: Very Good. No Damage. Usual glaze skips and uneven color, inherent to the American Modern Line.
