Kati Tuominen Niittyla ( b. 1947) produced the Storybirds ceramic series for the Finnish company Arabia (Iittala)
The Storybirds collection of 4 whimsical vessels that double as vases or pitchers, were made from 1995-1998. They consists of named ceramics of minimalist shaped form of birds. These were purchased new in Finland in the 90s and never displayed or used. Both of the two black vessels have one tiny pin prick from firing {please look at pic with blue arrow, the flaw is black not white as it shows) otherwise all in Excellent new condition.
Oliver (white) -12 1/4 inches high x 8 1/2 inches wide x 3 inches deep (1.16 quart capacity)
Olga (black) – 9 inches high x 6 inches wide x 4 inches deep (46 ounces cap.)
Ollie (black) – 5 1/2 inches high x 8 inches wide x 3 3/4 inches deep ( 21 ounces cap.)
Omar (white)- 2 1/4 inches high x 5 3/4 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches deep (3.5 ounces cap.)
Finnish ceramist Kati Tuominen-Niittylä ( b. 1947 ) known for her high fired ceramic vessels that can double as useful pieces (vases that are pitchers, bowls that can be use as baskets) with nature infuencing her shapes and neutral color glazes.
Tuominen-Niittylä works are part of the collection of the British Victoria & Albert Museum, other museums and institutions.
