Description

Beautiful Mid Century Modern oil/masonite painting by reknown Haitian artist, Gabriel Lévéque, of a vase with a lovely flower arrengement.  He has made use of the whole surface by covering it with colorful flowers and oversized vessel.  Colors used are: tomato red, yellow, green, blue, brown and purple on a greenish gray mottled background. The masonite board is attached to wood strips in the back. His work normally is more figurative and naive usually depicting daily rituals of Haitian life. This painting is  elegant, sophisticated and decorative which could add beauty to any room. Probably created in the 1950s -1960s.

Gabriel Lévéque (1923-2013) born Croix des Bouquets, Haiti.  Lévéque was a Haitian Post-war and Contemporary artist of the early primivitive or naive artists’ school of the so call Haitian Renaissance.

Signed lower right –G Lévéque – on verso: 20(circled)  FLOWERS 16 x 24 MARS  ?? HAITI in crayon or oil pencil.
