Herbert Krenchel was a Danish material researcher and designer who became obessed with creating a very thin metal salad bowl after seeing the popularity, at the time, of Americans and Danes to serve large leafy green salads. Krenchel created a process where a very shiny and durable colored enamel could be applied to the inside of the bowl and keeping a matte black finish on the outside. A design firm founded in 1953 by Torben Ørskov was entrusted for the sales of the newly developed Krenit bowls. In 2007, the Normann Copenhagen company reintroduced the Krenit bowls in different colors including Gold and real Silver with the iconic black matte finish on the outside.
