Handsome Pair of Mid Century white Horse Head Modern Bookends by Abingdon Potteries. Beautiful designed horse heads bookends in glossy white glaze which were produced from 1938 through 1950. Due to the long production period, some of the glazes color were slightly different. Stamped on bottom in ink with the ABINGDON USA in a rectangle on the fired white clay.
Measurements: 3 3/8 inches wide x 6 inches deep x 6 1/2 inches high
Condition: Very Good Condition. Minor wear consistent with age and use. One of the bookends is lighter, in weight and color, than the other one.

The Abingdon Sanitary Manufacturing Co. was founded in 1908 in the small town of Abingdon, Illinois. During the depression, not much constrution going on, Abingdon cut down production of plumbingware and started its artware division. The named was changed to Abingdon Pottery in 1945. Artware production started in 1934 and was discontinued 1950, when new home construction boomed due to the returning GIs and need for new toilets and sinks were in high demand.
