Large oil on canvas painting by Sergio Hernandez from his ” Casitas” series from the 1980s. Naive yet sophisticated style depicting stylized native houses found in the countryside throughout Mexico and Central America. Painted in a mottled deep reddish brown color and the houses’ outline created by scrapping the background paint. Signed lower right HERNANDEZ / 83. Sergio Hernandez was born in a town in the Sierra Mixteca, state of Oaxaca in 1957. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas and “La Esmeralda” art school both in Mexico City. In 1987, he went to Paris to study engraving. Hernandez is an accomplished ceramist, engraver sculptor and painter.
