Description
SOLD….Framed floating Oil on Board Painting by noted artist Gustavo Novoa, of his trademark Tigers, signed lower left. Novoa was born in 1941 in Santiago, Chile. This painting is from the early 1960s when Novoa moved from Paris to NYC. Very early in 1960s, Novoa was selling his art in Montmartre, Paris, which consisted of watercolors and crayon.. He was promoted by the Chilean Ambassador to France who presented Novoa with his first mayor show. His early paintings, as this one, are colorful jungle scenes and painted in a naive style. Later he refined his works with more composition and details. First represented by Guy Burgos Galleries in NYC and soon thereafter and still by Findlay Galleries in NYC and Palm Beach. This painting in a period carved gilt frame with a back label from L. Grieve , upper Eastside NYC framers.
Though the tiger is a solitary animal, where a number of these cats occur together, here eight together, the correct name for the group is a ‘streak’ or an ‘ambush’ of tigers.
