Description

The Ruda Glasbruk company was founded in 1910 in Ruda, a town in the glass making area of Sweden, and closed in 1972.  High levels of cobalt was used to give the glass its deep midnight blue color.   The  shape was given when poured into molds made from carbon, which deteriorated quickly and created variations in the design thus making each piece unique. Carbon molds required replacing often, which made production costs high.

Göte Augustsson was the director and main designer for the Ruda glassworks from the 50s until it closed in 1972.

This collection was made in different colors, cobalt blue, forest green, amber color, light lilac and clear.  Each color had a slightly different brutalist, almost hieroglyphs designs.  The Kobalt blue has a  modified  Greek Key or Meandering design while the RUSTIC green and clear color have some rough geometric designs.   These are great example of the typical heavy textured glass that the Scandinavian countries were known to produce during the 1960s.
