Francis Jennings ( b. Wilmington, DE 1910 – 1993 NYC) painted this cubist oil on board in 1953 while residing in NYC. In vivid colors Jennings depicted a large cat with a large bird in his mouth, probably bringing indoors as a gift to his owner. Oil on Board. Signed Jennings 1953 lower right corner.
Although primarily known as sculptor, Jennings was equally comfortable painting murals and abstracts. His work was frequently exhibited in Philadelphia and New York, where he lived for much of his life. In 1967, Jennings was the subject of a radio series, The Artist in New York.
