From the outrageous and fabulous well known drag queen and counterculture actor Divine (1945-1988), posters from Tom Eyen’s plays Women Behind Bars (+ 8 x 10 photo) and The Neon Woman and a poster from Divine’s cult movie Pink Flamingos by John Waters. The poster of The Neon Woman and the one of Pink Flamingos are dedicated and signed by Divine.
The poster for Women Behind Bars is for the 1976 revival of the play by Tom Eyen (Mary Hartmann, Mary Hartman, Dreamgirls) featuring Divine as the matron of a Women’s House of Detention in Greenwich Village. The theme of the play is a dark comedy, an exaggerated and absurd melodrama of incarcerated women experiencing over the top campy situations . Graphics by Michael Vollbrach.
Pink Flamingos is a movie from 1976 written and directed by John Waters. The plot is about a wanted criminal Baltimore figure played by Divine as Babs. Babs is hiding out in a run down trailer with her family of outcasts while trying to prevent a couple from stealing her title as “The Filthiest Person Alive”. The Neon Woman 1978 play, also by Tom Eyen, is an outrageous murder mystery set in a rundown Baltimore tacky strip joint by a retired stripper, Divine as Flash Storm. Rare poster.
