Description
Large Watercolor and Ink Painting on illustration board of the Green Lantern, artist signed, 1971.
The Green Lantern was created by Martin Nodell (Mart Dellon) in 1940. The first incarnation of the Green Lantern was Alan Scott. Alan was a railroad engineer, who after an accident became in possession of a speaking magic lantern which gave him special powers. He was able to create a magic ring which gave him superhuman powers so he could fight human and immortal villains in New York. The only drawback of the magic ring was that it had to be recharged by the magic lantern every 24 hour period, similar to our smart phones.
As with many superheroes, the Green Lantern was recast into many different personas through the years after WW II and even the magic lantern was reinvented.
