Description
The Bastiano Series was designed in 1962 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa. The line provided elegance and comfort with its sleek minimalist modern design yet still commanding attention in a room. Here in this classic Sofa, the black leather cushions sit on a simple frame of white lacquered wood with a coil support. Condition is very good with new leather on the cushions. The creamy white lacquered wood frame has minor scrapes and the wood’s grain shows through in various spots but its not distracting. It was bought in Mexico City from Knoll in 1973.
Measurements: 84 inches wide x 31 inches deep x 29 inches high. Seat at 15 inches high. We have also listed the companion lounge chair in another listing.
Afra and Tobia Scarpa designed the Bastiano Sofa and Lounge Chair and they were originally produced by La Gavina Spa. in Italy. Knoll purchased La Gavina Spa. in the late 60s thus taking over production. Knoll contracted Möbel Internacional in Mexico City to manufacture some of their products in the early 1970s. In 1976, Grupo Suma acquired Möbel and obtained the license to continue the production.
