Description

SOLD Kokeshi dolls in olden days were toys for children in Northen Japan which parents would gift to a new born child.  Woods from the north of Japan would be used for the Kokeshi and a lathe and a plane would be used to create the body and head.  The most important and difficult part of the craft would be the drawing the facial expression which would show the emotion and personality of the doll. There are now two types of Kokeshi dolls, one is the classical traditional type and the other is one with a modern influence.  These two types both follow the Japanese tradition of naming the dolls and producing one by one with the spirit of each craftsman.  Comes with its own Tatami Mat, signed original cardboard box and wooden name/story sign.

This Kokeshi ” Hometown Daughter” was born in c 1979 and created by noted accomplished craftsman Inosuke Kobayashi born 1931. Measures 13 inches high and 5 inches in diameter.
