Description

Magical fantasy is what Clara Ledesma (b. march 1924 -Santiago, D.R. – d. may 1999- New York ) created in this ink and watercolor on paper painting.  A member of The Group of Four, along with Jaime Colson, Joseph Gausachs and Gilberto Hernandez.  They were the founders of the Modernist school of Dominican Painting.
Ledesma was the first woman to become member of National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo in 1948.  She had studied in Europe and had been influenced by the likes of Chagall, Miro, and Klee.  This affinity can be seen in her depiction of a naïve fantasy and magical harmony.
