McKee Glass Company was founded in Pittsburgh prior (1854) to the Civil War. It basically produced utilitarian pieces, window panes, bottles, etc. After many different name changes, it was acquired in 1904 and became McKee Jeannette Glass Co. having moved production to Jeannette, Pa. In 1961 it became Jeannette Glass Company and it finally ended production in 1983.
Jadite came about in the 1930s with its opaque green hue milk glass, simulating Jade. Prior to WW II, uranium was used with the glass, thus it would glow in the dark.
