Description
Original gouache painting by Andrés ( García Benítez), a Cuban painter well known for creating covers for Carteles, a prestigious weekly magazine in Havana. The painting depicts a beautiful young woman wearing an elegant outfit complemented with the necessary fan, pearl necklace and a white turban which seems to glow. She seats on an intricate reed armchair in front of an open door, with its typical mediopunto stained glass window, with a tranquil blue sea on the background.
In the 1930s, the director of Carteles commissioned Andres (1926-1981) , when just 16 years old and with no art training, to create covers and other works for Carteles. Andrés works represent typical everyday Cuban scenes with interesting characters. Signed and dated lower right.
