Produced in the 1960s, a Classic laced black leather and chrome Mies van der Rohe MR10 cantilever chairs by Knoll International. New cord lacing on the back and on seat. Retains the Knoll label.
The graceful, elegant, and beautifully proportioned “MR” chair, developed from a 1924 design for a cantilevered chair by Mart Stam, was introduced by Mies van der Rohe in 1927 as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany and has remained in production ever since. In 1930, Mies succeeded Walter Gropius as the director of the Bauhaus, where he stayed until the school closed in 1933. In 1937, Mies emigrated from Europe to the United States, and a year later became the director of architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Measurements: 19 1/4 inches wide x 26 1/2 inches deep x 31 1/4 inches high back. Seat at 17 1/2 inches high.
