Description
Mid Century Modern Italian pottery vase made by Fratelli Fanciullacci in the early 1960s for the US distributor Melrose. This oval shaped bowl with pinched corners has a glossy drip orange-red glaze over a terracotta body and decorated with an applied ladder design in blue gray. The center of the bowl is unglazed with the terracotta clay showing. MELROSE ITALY stamped in ink on flat bottom base. Very Good Condition with no issues.
Measurements: 7 1/4 inches wide x 5 1/2 inches deep x 3 3/4 inches high.
Bitossi bought Fratelli Fanciullacci after the war and allowed the family to continue making their own wares with not much interference. A devastating flood in 1966 destroyed the factory which was rebuilt but quality suffered and finally the company closed in 1988.
